Allocation and registration of IPv4 and IPv6 address space and Autonomous System Numbers to IRINN affiliates.
IRINN is a division of NIXI that allocates and registers Internet Protocol addresses (IPv4 and IPv6) and Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs) for its affiliates.
Various policies apply at the time of application so that the management of the allocation and assignment of IPv4 and IPv6 address space is straightforward, the administration smooth, and the allocation fair. The allocation policies are therefore based on the principles of neutrality, impartiality and openness.
Evaluations for all resource applications are based on current and provisionally-active policies. IP address space is not reserved during the application process.
IPv4 and IPv6 allocation
One of IRINN's roles is the allocation or assignment of IP address space to organisations. Address space is assigned for specific use within an organisation's own internet infrastructure. These assignments are made for specific, documented purposes only, and the addresses cannot be redistributed or sub-assigned further.
Address space is considered allocated when an internet registry or other organisation is given the right to use that space for subsequent distribution — either as a customer assignment or as a portable allocation. In both cases, all IPv4 and IPv6 address space distribution must conform to the goals of address space management.
IPv4 and IPv6 resources are allocated only to affiliates, because IRINN is a not-for-profit affiliation-type organisation. Organisations seeking allocation must first apply for affiliation.
Autonomous System Number assignments
IRINN deems an organisation eligible for an AS number assignment if it operates at multiple locations and has a clearly defined routing policy that differs from the routing policies of its service providers.
An organisation is also considered eligible if it can demonstrate that it will meet these criteria upon receiving an AS number. The AS number must be used within three months. From 1 January 2025, the first two ASNs are free; additional ASNs are subject to the fees in the current policy.
Applying through an LIR.
For faster processing, IRINN recommends that smaller internet service providers apply through a Local Internet Registry (LIR) or an IRINN agent. Applications for /24 or larger IPv4 blocks must be submitted directly to IRINN.
Annual fees
Affiliation fees are payable annually. On renewal, the annual fee is calculated from the internet number resources held by the organisation.
The fees for the IPv4 and IPv6 components are calculated separately; the higher of the two amounts is chargeable as the annual fee.
