IRINN Affiliation Guide

What you can do as an affiliate, and what is expected of you.

As an affiliate, you can sign in to MyIRINN to manage your contacts, account information and internet resources. MyIRINN is IRINN's secure self-service portal for affiliates.

What MyIRINN lets you manage

  • Reverse DNS delegations
  • Contact details
  • IP assignment registration to your customers and within your network infrastructure

As an affiliate, you are responsible for keeping your contact and account information current.

Update registration

The IRINN Whois Database is an official record containing information about the organisations that hold IP addresses and AS numbers in India. Each organisation that holds internet resources is responsible for updating its own information in the database. As the database is used to assist with network troubleshooting and to help track network abuse, it is extremely important that contact details are accurate and current.

Public or private assignments

Each organisation can choose whether to designate its assignment or sub-allocation registration as public or private:

  • Public assignment — others can view a company's holdings on the IRINN or APNIC Whois Database.
  • Private assignment — the database record directs a specific Whois enquiry to the holding organisation, and the details are not available to the public.

Register a route object

IRINN provides Routing Registration Services for all affiliates. To use this service, register a route object — a compact record of routing information, including IP address ranges and AS numbers, held in the IRINN Whois Database.

IRINN policy does not make route-object registration mandatory. However, an upstream provider or network policy may require one. Some ISPs and network operators use route object information in the Internet Routing Registry database to debug routing problems, automatically configure backbone routers, and perform network planning. Discuss the requirement with your internet service provider.

Reverse DNS delegation

Forward translation. The Domain Name System is a globally distributed internet service — a hierarchical naming system in which easy-to-remember names are translated into the numbers required for devices to network across the internet.

Reverse translation. If you own a domain name and want to find the IP address it belongs to, you can query the numerical hierarchy that co-exists with the name hierarchy: the reverse DNS. Reverse DNS delegations allow requesters to map to a domain name from an IP address, using pseudo-domain names in in-addr.arpa (IPv4) and ip6.arpa (IPv6).

Renewal

An annual affiliation renewal reminder is emailed to all affiliates about 30 days before the affiliation expiry date. Annual fee calculations are based on the total number of IP addresses held under your account on the anniversary of your IRINN affiliation.

Upon account expiration, the invoice for affiliation renewal, together with the payment instruction letter, is emailed to affiliates. The fee is based on the account's internet resource holdings as of the affiliation anniversary date. A hard copy of the invoice can also be obtained via MyIRINN under Administration › Billing history, or on request.

For reminder dates, the grace period, closure and reactivation terms, see the full billing procedure.

Payment guide

  • Include the invoice number and affiliation account name in the payment details to avoid processing delays.
  • Payments may be made by cheque or demand draft drawn in favour of 'National Internet Exchange of India', or online by credit card, debit card or internet banking.
  • All payments are due within 30 days of the affiliation expiry date, or upon receipt of the invoice.
  • If payment is not received by the applicable deadline, services will be suspended and resources will be withdrawn in accordance with the billing procedure.
  • If a cheque is returned or dishonoured, a charge of ₹250 will be levied.

Returning resources

Your annual renewal fee is directly related to the amount of internet number resources you hold on your affiliation anniversary date. If you wish to return resource holdings, contact the IRINN helpdesk as soon as possible with details of the resources concerned. Resources must be returned before your renewal date to be eligible for a revision of your renewal fee.
