Frequently asked questions
Affiliation, applications, fees, account management and transfers from APNIC.
Joining IRINN
Why join IRINN?
Joining IRINN gives organisations access to all IRINN services, including requests for allocation and registration of internet address resources, and attendance at training courses organised by IRINN.
Is affiliation suitable for my organisation?
IRINN affiliation is open to all organisations. Holding your own IP addresses and AS numbers lets you choose your peering and upstream providers, because your addresses are portable, and it removes the overhead of renumbering your network when you change provider.
To promote better aggregation of routing information, IRINN has a minimum IPv4 delegation of a /24 (256 addresses) and a /48 for IPv6.
Who can become an IRINN affiliate?
Any organisation that can complete the IRINN KYC documents and demonstrate a need for the IP resources requested.
How do I become an IRINN affiliate?
- Complete the online affiliation form on the MyIRINN portal.
- Send copies of the IRINN Affiliation Agreement and your KYC documents to NIXI. The Affiliation Agreement must be printed on plain A4 paper.
An applicant may become a member of either APNIC or IRINN. It cannot be a member of both APNIC and IRINN at the same time.
Does filling in the online form guarantee I will get address space?
No. All requests for IP address space must be fully supported by documentation justifying the request. Because IP address space is a public resource, it is only allocated on the basis of demonstrated need, and on the condition that it will be used in accordance with IRINN policy.
What details do I need before filling in the online form?
You will need your ISP provider's details — their ASN, contact number, email address and contact person's name.
Fees and payment
What is the fee structure for IP resources?
A new affiliate pays a one-time affiliation application fee of ₹27,500 plus the annual resource fee, which is based on the size of the approved address space.
See the full fee schedule or estimate your fee. Payment can be made online or by NEFT — see Make a payment.
How do I return internet resources?
Your annual renewal fee is directly related to the amount of internet number resources you hold on your affiliation anniversary date.
If you wish to return resource holdings, contact the IRINN helpdesk as soon as possible with details of the resources concerned. Resources must be returned before your affiliation renewal date to be eligible for a revision of your renewal fee.
Managing your account
How do I log in to MyIRINN for the first time?
- Go to https://www.myirinn.in and choose Register.
- Choose a username and password.
- Enter your first name, registered email address and account name — the same account name you used on the online application form.
- Submit, then sign in with your new username and password.
How do I change the contact details on my IRINN account?
Send a scanned copy of a completed Corporate Contact Form from your registered email address, showing the details you want changed. The form is available from Downloads.
If you no longer have access to the registered email address, you must send a hard copy of the Corporate Contact Form signed by the director or duly authorised company officer who signed the IRINN Agreement, with the company seal. The request is processed only if the signature matches the one on the Agreement. Send the scanned copy first; post the hard copy only if IRINN confirms it is required.
How do I change the address on my IRINN account?
Provide a scanned copy of either a bank account statement in the company's name showing the complete address for the last three months, stamped and signed by the bank, or a utility bill in the company's name showing the complete address for the latest month.
How do I create an AS-set, route object or reverse DNS object?
Send a fresh email to the IRINN helpdesk from your registered email address, with your account name in the subject line only.
How do I raise a request for ROA registration?
Email the IRINN helpdesk from your registered email address with:
- The ASN through which you will announce your IP block
- The IP prefix
- The most specific announcement length — for example /22, /23 or /24
See Resource Certification for a worked example.
Transferring from APNIC
What are the steps to transfer resources from APNIC to IRINN?
-
Your organisation's Corporate Contact emails APNIC with the APNIC account name in the subject line,
including:
- A list of resources to be transferred (internet addresses and Autonomous System Numbers)
- An expression of consent, for example: "I agree to transfer the IP resources to IRINN-IN"
- A statement of whether the APNIC membership account will be closed after the transfer
- Contact IRINN and have an email confirmation sent from IRINN to APNIC confirming the transfer request.
APNIC may only proceed once it has received all of the above. If your organisation retains its APNIC account, it may only request internet resources from one source in future — either the nominated NIR or APNIC. See the APNIC Transfer of Membership policy ↗.
How do I manage my resources after the transfer?
- Apply for affiliation with IRINN through the MyIRINN portal.
- The IRINN hostmaster evaluates your request. After approval, register your user account.
- Sign in to MyIRINN with your new username and password.
- IRINN allocates your resources within three working days of the transfer completing, after which they are visible and manageable in your account.
How long does a transfer take?
APNIC has a one to two working day turnaround for resource requests; clarifications add to that. IRINN takes three working days to resolve an affiliation ticket, extended if further clarification is needed.
Will a transfer affect my routing?
No. A transfer has no technical impact on the resources you hold, and does not affect any routing policy.
Are there fees for an account transfer?
No. Account transfers from APNIC to IRINN are free.
What documents are required to justify a resource request?
- The nature of your business.
- A detailed plan showing how you arrived at your requirement for each service — a network plan or diagram(s). See a sample network diagram ↗.
- Copies of the signed service agreements between your organisation and your upstream providers, and three of your most recent payment receipts or invoices.
- A list of the physical equipment your organisation has acquired to support the deployment (vendor, model, quantity), with invoice copies attached. See a sample invoice ↗.
- Whether you need an AS Number, and if so, which ASN you will announce and why.
- Your upstream provider's details, for verification: name, mobile number, email, organisation name and AS number.
